Ancol, Jakarta, Friday, August 31, 2018 — It was the final day of the sailing competition in Ancol and there was a lot of excitement at the Indonesian Sailing Centre. The Jakarta heat was no match for the sailors’ determination as they look forward to a brilliant finish with hopes of bringing home a medal for their country.

In the 49erFX class, Kimberly and Cecilia had already sealed their Gold medal the day before. However, they continued to put up a spectacular performance and rounded up the last race with another bullet. In all, they scored 14 net points with an impressive 15 bullets across 15 races.

It is sweet to have a clean slate. It shows our dominance,” said Kimberly in an interview with The Straits Times.

The last day of racing witnessed fantastic performances from our sailors. In the 49er class, Riji and Yinian finished strong as they rounded the mark at second place. In the Laser Radial, Jillian finished third, her best race in the competition. 470 Women’s pair, Yukie and Cheryl, also finished strong as they rounded the mark at second place.

TC Chua, Head of Performance at SingaporeSailing is satisfied with the sport’s performance at the 18th Asian Games.

In the last Asian Games, we took home 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes. Four of the classes (Optimist and 420 Men, 420 Women, 29er and J80 Keelboat are not in this year’s edition of the Games),” he said

“We’re pleased that Ryan Lo was able to maintain Colin Cheng’s record and take home a Bronze in the Laser Standard class. This is also the first time that the 49erFX event (the Olympic class) is being held at the Asian Games, so we are delighted that our girls were able to hold their weight against the Chinese and Indian teams and deliver a flawless performance. This is very much in line with our strategy to focus our efforts on driving performance in the Olympic classes. ” he added.
